On November 4th 2019, The Traveller – a new globally oriented restaurant concept conceived by Michiel Deenik, head chef and owner of Restaurant Visaandeschelde and THE ROAST ROOM – opened its doors in the green heart of Cumulus Park in Amsterdam Zuidoost.
A CULINARY ADVENTURE
This is Michiel Deenik’s third restaurant. He is launching this adventure with restaurant manager Neal Valentijn and a close childhood friend, Jeroen van Brussel. The restaurant’s concept is inspired by their shared love of travel and the culinary voyage of discovery that comes with it. Michiel will focus on the necessary culinary arts, Neal will run daily operations and management, and Jeroen will oversee the restaurant’s financial administration.
HEART OF THE DISTRICT
Cumulus Park is being developed in collaboration with the municipality of Amsterdam on the Bijlmerdreef in Amsterdam Zuidoost. In the middle of the green park that will eventually connect all offices located on the Cumulus Park, including the new office of ING, The Traveller will serve as the culinary heart and meeting venue. It will be an inspiring place where employees working on the Cumulus Park, students and businesspeople, as well as local residents, shoppers and the nightlife crowd, will all be welcome to enjoy a tantalising breakfast, lunch or dinner from 7:00 in the morning to 1:00 at night.
The menu at The Traveller is adventurous, with a mix of traditional world dishes prepared according to modern cooking techniques. And with beers and wines originating from all corners of the earth, the bar menu offers a true voyage of discovery. The service and kitchen staff is also international in its makeup; something that will only enhance the authentic taste experience.
The bar/restaurant pavilion has been designed by Powerhouse Company and is being developed by OVG Real Estate and G&S Vastgoed. Studio BvanB is working with the architect to create the interior design. The building’s imposing glass front with rounded corners, its high-grade wooden roof and surface area of more than 900 m2 place it securely within the realm of iconic design.
